The Changing Buddhist Diet

Lecture/Panel, In-person

In this talk, Mikiyasu Yanagi will discuss the historical and regional transformations of Buddhist dietary practices. From its origins in India around 2,500 years ago and through its transmission through China and into Japan, Buddhism constantly adapted flexibly and changed in response to the societies of each time and place. By focusing on the vital human activities of eating and drinking, this talk will shed light on the multifarious nature of Buddhism.
