Kawaii & Fashion: Interviews with Lolitas (Xun)

What does lolita fashion mean to those who dress in this kawaii, feminine, and nostalgic style? How has lolita fashion traveled beyond Japan to be embraced by people around the world? This series of interviews from the Kawaii in Japan & Beyond: Theory & Praxis project documents the diverse perspectives of lolita fashion practitioners from the Atlanta Lolita Community in the United States.

In this interview, we hear from Xun, a lolita who loves gothic and hime, or "princess," substyles. Topics Xun discusses include issues of inclusion within the lolita community and the rising popularity of Chinese lolita brands.

Xun says, "Kawaii is a childhood dream. It's everything that I wanted when I was growing up not knowing if I could be a princess, and now it's being able to go outside as my authentic self."
