About Me

I am a historian of medieval Japan with a particular interest in the 14th-century war and social changes during that period. In my dissertation, Muromachi bakufu chihō shihai no kenkyū (室町幕府地方支配の研究), I explored the dynamic changes of Muromachi bakufu's control of provinces from the 14th to the 15th centuries. My most recent works focus on Kyushu Deputy Imagawa Ryōshun, whose letters allow us to reconstruct the 14th-century war vividly.

I joined the Historiographical Institute of the University of Tokyo in 2015, where I have been engaged in the research of medieval sources and the publication of sourcebooks. During my overseas research at Princeton University in 2019-20, I became more interested in historiographies in non-Japanese academia and co-edited Kaigai no Nihon chūseishi kenkyū (Overseas Research on Medieval Japan) in 2023. I am also in charge of the Online Glossary of Japanese Historical Terms of the Historiographical Institute. Feel free to contact me if you can offer your glossary to the database.
