GO FOR KOGEI: Rethinking the Future of Japanese Crafts and Art from Hokuriku

What does the future of Japanese traditional craft, KOGEI, look like when freed from the boundaries of tradition, genre, and form?
Since its launch in 2020, the GO FOR KOGEI project has invited artisans, craftsmen, designers and artists to the Hokuriku region to push the boundaries of Japanese crafts and arts through hands-on experimentation and site-specific exhibitions. Set against the traditional cityscapes of Toyama, Ishikawa and Fukui, GO FOR KOGEI transforms the familiar, everyday environment by weaving contemporary craft and art into the rhythms of daily life.
Asia Society Japan is excited to welcome Director and Curator Yuji Akimoto to share his curatorial vision of this year’s GO FOR KOGEI, which “explores the diverse ways of living shaped by the various practices of artists and craftspeople as they engage with materials and techniques.”
Join us for the latest edition of our Art for Breakfast series to explore how contemporary practice is shaping the future of Japanese crafts and revitalizing regional communities.
